A Yellow Sundress for Florida’s Sunny Vibes – Story Time

Hi cheery friends,

There is something special and unique about a yellow sundress and felt that it would be the right outfit to wear on my trip to Miami, Florida (The Sunshine State). Anyway, I’ve heard so much about  Miami, Florida that sometimes it feels like I’ve been there already lol.  Why Miami you may ask, well because I am tired of the cold  in the north east and the elusive Spring weather! I needed a change of weather and scenery, and plus I chose Miami as my port of embarkation for a Caribbean cruise but that’s another blog post. Please look out for it.

I was there for less than 24 hours but I got a good feel for the city of Miami and truly enjoyed the warm weather. It was a lovely 85 degrees Fahrenheit with humidity , so I felt awesome and radiant. I found a hotel in downtown Miami , the World center district with its gorgeous skyscrapers, amazing views and relaxed atmosphere. I was so excited about being in the sunshine state that I decided to go out in this yellow sundress to match Florida’s sunny vibes. Obviously 24 hours is barely enough to go to all the tourist hot spots. I am sorry guys, I wasn’t at South Beach but was in Brickell City which overlooks Biscayne Bay. I was right next to Port Miami, the cruise port of the world and wasn’t going to risk missing my Royal Caribbean cruise.

I was worried that I would encounter snakes and gators while on my visit, I was nervous to be honest lol. They make it sound like Floridians live with these reptiles by their side. Anyway, I didn’t see any reptiles , but I was ready with my secret armor. Months prior, I had read an online review of a woman who woke up to find a snake in her high end hotel room.  You should have seen me checking under the bed  and flushing the toilet before use lol at the hotel I was staying. I also didn’t encounter Florida man lol,  thank God. The people of Miami seem very warm,  friendly and with an ultra relaxed attitude that I have only seen in Mombasa , Kenya. They had positive automated messages on doors and elevators like “you look beautiful today”. At restaurants and Ubers, there is a warmth and friendliness which I am not used to being from the north (NY I am referring to you) lol. Seriously, people are happier here, and who could blame them.  It’s sunny 99% of the year. It didn’t feel like part of the states , more like the Caribbean and now I get why people move to the sunshine state.

You guys, I have been to Dubai and experienced its impressive architecture and concrete jungle. I thought this emirate was copying NYC but I was wrong, the place that is similar to Dubai is downtown Miami. I’m not sure which city inspired the other but they are both very similar in design and vibe.  Oscar Wilde once said “Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery”.

Miami feels like a party 24 hours a day. I had dinner at the Hard Rock Cafe after waiting for an hour. Everywhere I went, there was a party vibe – drinking, dancing and music – you know, enjoying life. There is a live for the moment energy in restaurants and bars and people are very carefree. I don’t know if other tourists feel this way but in the northern states, the men run the show while in Miami at least,I feel like the women take more control. That’s just what I saw and felt in the less than 24 hours I was there. By the way, Madonna was in town for her celebration tour the weekend of April 6th. Had I known, I would have bought tickets because I am a huge fan of hers.

Back to my yellow sundress. I think yellow goes well with my complexion and reflects my personality.  It  makes me happy and puts me in a positive mindset. The colors that people choose to have on say a lot about who they are, their likes, their personalities and even the mood they are in. Yellow shines bright and puts me in a jovial mood. People have complimented this sundress so many times which makes me want to wear it more. I paired the yellow sundress with these red open toe block heels and I love the high contrast the look creates. Did you know that red and yellow go together because they are from the same color family, and play well together with their intense saturations.  Walking around in these blocks is no joke so made sure to have on hand these thong wedge sandals that made moving around a easier.

Back to Miami! I was able to tour the Bayside Front and was surprised at how bodies of water were not guarded with some kind of fencing to avoid falling in and potential drowning. People with children by their side were taking selfies inches away from the water. Boats and large ships dock in the Biscayne waters so its not pond height, these are dark and deep waters. That’s how chill it is there, no worries.

I stayed at the citizenM hotel at World Center ,and they have a super easy check in and check out process. You just have to walk up to a screen  enter your information and you get the key. Automated and real fast. I loved their decor and ambiance and I would definitely stay here again. They have a full breakfast buffet that you will enjoy indulging in while overlooking lush gardens and blue skies through huge glass walls.
