My cheery friends, Fall is upon us and today we are talking about how to style a pleated skirt. Pleated skirts are a timeless fashion staple that adds elegance and sophistication to an outfit. They are often associated with a classic and feminine aesthetic, offering a graceful and polished look. These skirts can be dressed up or down, making them ideal for a variety of occasions. They can be worn for formal events, work settings, casual outings, or even as part of a chic street style ensemble. What I love about pleated skirts is the flattering silhouette they create, especially the A line flow that highlights the curve and defines the waistline. Who can resist the playfulness of a pleated skirt and the way it moves as you walk bringing a sense of joy and making someone’s day.
I went to a catholic high school where the uniform included pleated skirts and white blouses . Those pleats were expected to be neat and straight so I associate this style of skirts with formal settings but there are other ways to style pleated skirts

Blazer is from here , Skirts from here, and here
- Choose the Right Length: Pleated skirts come in various lengths, from mini to maxi. The length you choose can greatly affect the overall look. Mini skirts offer a playful and youthful vibe, while midi and maxi skirts can be elegant and sophisticated. Pick a length that suits your style and the occasion.
2. Select a Complementary Top:
When styling a pleated skirt, the top you choose can make or break the outfit.
- Tucked Blouse: Tuck a fitted blouse or shirt into the skirt for a classic, polished look. This works well for office attire or more formal occasions.
- Cropped Top: Pair a pleated skirt with a cropped top for a trendy and youthful outfit. This combination can work for casual outings or a night out.
- Sweater: During cooler seasons, opt for a cozy sweater tucked into the skirt. This creates a balanced, stylish outfit.
- Add a blazer for a polished office look.
3. Choose the Right Footwear:
- Heels: Elevate your look with heels or heeled boots. This adds sophistication and elongates the legs, especially when paired with a midi or maxi pleated skirt.
- Flats: For a more relaxed and comfortable style, opt for ballet flats or sneakers. These work well with mini or knee-length pleated skirts.
- Boots: Ankle or knee-high boots can be a great choice for a stylish, transitional look, especially in the fall or winter.
4. Accessorize Thoughtfully:
- Belt: Add a belt to cinch the waist and define your silhouette when wearing a tucked-in top.
5. Layer for Versatility:
- Jacket or Blazer: Throw on a tailored blazer or a denim jacket for a more structured look.
- Cardigan: A cardigan can add a cozy touch to your outfit, making it perfect for casual outings.
