I was thinking about my stripes collection, and just realized that this black and white striped mini dress is the most casual of them all.

Imagine a solid black or white dress. See how plain and boring it is. Now add vertical, horizontal and even diagonal stripes to get an eye catching piece of clothing. I have admired stripes for a long time. When I was a kid, I admired the stripes on dress shirts for men. I recall seeing stripes on beach towels and later on , ladies clothing. So, stripes have come a long way, and have been around for quite sometime. They remind me of my childhood and the popular beach resort we frequented when school was out. When I wear a striped mini dress, it feels like I am on a vacation , you know that relaxed , breezy and blue skies feeling. There is something unique about them , and they remind me of the sea, it’s timelessness, just like stripes. I know the original stripes were navy and white( Breton stripes),but even black and white striped dresses take me on a mental adventure.
How to Style a Striped Mini Dress
Striped mini dresses can be dressed up or down without much effort , making them appropriate for whatever occasion you have in mind. The cotton fabric of this striped t-shirt dress plays a big part in the outcome of the final outfit. Did you know you can wear this striped mini dress to the office! You can create a professional look with this dress as the canvas. Add a hot pink blazer, a black belt, gold tone bangle and sandals. Voila! You are set for the office in a chic outfit.
It’s crazy hot out there, and so you can ditch the blazer and just add a black sash belt and pink pumps. This look is still great for the office and you can wear it for happy hour later in the day. If you follow me on social media, you know that pumps are some of my favorite heels. So I thought I would make this outfit pop by wearing bright pink pumps. I think I was able to achieve the look effortlessly.
I think that black and white striped mini dresses are chic and ooze of sophistication. Some people are wary of stripes and worry on the visual aspect they bring. Yes, its true some stripes can make you appear wider or heavier. The trick before shopping for a striped mini dress is to know your body type. I was able to work the horizontal stripes on this dress and I think it’s because the stripes are thin. I learned my lesson from having horizontal block stripes that made me appear shorter and stout. So do your research ladies 🙂
You maybe wondering, why add a sash belt if the striped mini dress already has lines on it! Well, it’s because this dress has an a-line design and so I wanted to define my waist and also make me look slimmer and a bit taller( I am 5″1).
This striped mini dress was oh so comfortable on my skin, thanks to the cotton material it is made from. It has a light stretch to it and is ideal for warm weather as they are breathable and allow for easy movement.
The other way to style a striped mini dress is to tie a denim jacket to your waist and add on sneakers and you are out of the door in 10 minutes. This is the look to go for on Fridays at the office, running errands on weekends and you know an escape from the usual routine. I love this casual look, works great for the park, beach and even as a air travel outfit.( you know how cold those cabins can get ugh).
