Hi cheery friends,
If you follow me on social media, you know that I LOOOVE New York City, and are basically obsessed with Manhattan. So, in this blog , I will share with you my favorite fun things to do in NYC. So if you are a tourist or happen to be in the area, and need tips on places to go for guaranteed fun, then this blog will be beneficial to you. So lets get right into it!
- See a Broadway Show
I’ve loved theater for as long as I can remember. Back in elementary school in Nairobi, Kenya we called it drama class, and it was easily my favorite part of the day. I lived for those moments when we could pretend, perform, and bring stories to life. We had a huge theater where we could perform the acts, and parents were always excited to see the shows. Fast forward to the present ,and I am now immersed into theater culture, watching Broadway shows in New York City with the lights dimming, the curtain rising, and my heart racing like it did when I was a kid. There’s something about live theater that grabs you in a way no screen ever could. The music, the acting, the energy, it’s all so raw and powerful. I’ve become completely obsessed with this method of storytelling. It’s not just entertainment to me; it takes me back to my childhood!
When I saw The Lion King on Broadway, I was completely overwhelmed, in the best way. Even though we didn’t perform The Lion King back in my drama classes in Nairobi (it hadn’t even come out yet!), the entire experience still took me right back home. There was something about the music, the African rhythms, the storytelling, the Swahili words woven into the songs that all felt so familiar, like a part of me.
I sat in the theater with tears in my eyes, just taking it all in. The artistry is unbelievable, the way the actors move, the costumes, the way they bring animals to life on stage. But beyond the visuals, it was the feeling that got me. It reminded me why I fell in love with acting and storytelling as a little girl in Nairobi. It stirred something in me that I didn’t even know I’d been missing.
Then there is Aladdin, a magical spectacle that honestly felt like magic from start to finish.(Cue Regina Belle & Peabo Bryson’s A Whole New World melody)! The whole show was so sweet and full of joy, and it made me feel like a kid again. The colors, the costumes, the music… everything was just so beautiful and vibrant. And the genie had the whole audience laughing the entire time. It was one of those feel-good experiences that reminded me why I love theater so much. It brought back that sense of wonder I used to feel in drama class, just getting lost in a story for the fun of it.
As a huge Michael Jackson fan, seeing MJ the Musical was everything. From the second the show started, I was all in. It’s not just a bunch of hit songs strung together, it actually tells a story. You get to see his creative process, his drive for perfection, and even some of the personal struggles behind the scenes. And the performances? Unbelievable. The actor playing MJ had the voice, the moves, the energy, it was like watching Michael himself. I found myself singing along, tearing up at moments, and completely blown away by the dancing. It reminded me why MJ’s music has stayed with me all these years. The whole show was a celebration of his genius and a beautiful tribute to the legend he truly was.
If you’re in NYC and looking for a Broadway show that’s pure energy and over-the-top fun, you have to see Moulin Rouge! It’s like stepping into a dream! Get ready for bold colors, big voices, and hit songs you already know and love all mixed into one massive, unforgettable spectacle. The whole vibe is electric from start to finish. It’s not just a show, I tell you ,it’s an experience. If you love drama, romance, and music that makes you want to dance in your seat, this one’s a must.
- Brunch and Drinks with a View? Yes, Please.
Another thing I absolutely love doing in NYC is brunching on rooftops. There’s just something about being up high, soaking in the views, with good food and a mimosa in hand, it’s a vibe. One of my favorite spots is Refinery Rooftop in Midtown. The view of the Empire State Building is unreal, and the whole place has this cool, industrial rustic-chic feel. The food is great too, whether you’re in the mood for something sweet like French toast or something savory like their brunch burger, you’re covered. And did I state how good their mimosas are!
The Terrace at Times Square Edition is such a hidden gem. It’s tucked away just above all the madness of Times Square, but once you’re up there, it’s calm, classy, and honestly kind of dreamy. The views are beautiful—you can still feel the energy of the city, but from a peaceful, elevated perspective. And let me tell you, the French toast there is unbelievable. I’m talking perfectly golden, fluffy, and topped with just the right amount of sweetness. It’s the kind of dish that lingers in your mind long after brunch is over. Add a mimosa and good company, and it’s the perfect little escape in the heart of NYC.
If you ever want to feel a little fancy while eating insanely good food, head to Ophelia Lounge Rooftop at the Beekman. Their brunch towers are next level. We’re talking three tiers stacked with deliciousness like buttery scones, lobster rolls, smoked salmon bites, and crispy little potatoes that are so addictive. It feels super indulgent in the best way possible.
And the setting? Gorgeous. You’re way up high with wraparound views of the city and the river, so it’s peaceful but still very New York. It’s one of those brunches you’ll want to take your time with, enjoy a mimosa, snack on something from each layer, and just enjoy the whole vibe.
3. Stroll (or Ride) Through Central Park
Central Park is the heart and soul of New York City. It’s the place where the city slows down just enough for you to breathe, look around, and take it all in. Whether you’re walking under the trees, relaxing by the lake, or just people-watching on a bench, there’s a kind of peace here that’s hard to find anywhere else in Manhattan.
The views are straight out of a movie; skyscrapers peeking over the treetops, rowboats gliding across the water, and wide-open spaces that feel like a break from the chaos. And if you really want a moment to remember, hop in one of the horse-drawn carriages. It’s romantic, it’s nostalgic, and it makes you feel like you’re living in a scene from an old New York love story. Whether it’s your first time in the city or your fiftieth, Central Park always finds a way to feel brand new.
- Ride the Beast Speedboat
You guys, if you’re looking for something a little wild, and a lot of fun while in NYC, do not sleep on The BEAST speedboat ride. I’m talking full-throttle, hair-whipping, water-splashing chaos in the best possible way.
It’s basically a 30-minute thrill ride on the Hudson River that feels like part amusement park, part scenic tour, and part comedy show. The crew has jokes for days, and they blast music so loud you can’t help but dance a little while you’re gripping the rail for dear life. The vibe? Think rollercoaster meets boat party.
I boarded thinking it would just be a chill boat ride with a few speed bursts. Wrong. The BEAST flies. At one point I was laughing so hard I had tears in my eyes, and the next I was getting misted with river water and screaming like I was on a Six Flags ride. It was ridiculous, in the best way.
And let’s not forget the views. You zip right past Manhattan’s iconic skyline, and then they slow it down just enough to get an epic close-up of the Statue of Liberty. I got some of my favorite photos from that moment—windswept, slightly damp, and 100% worth it.
The BEAST isn’t for the faint of heart, but if you love a little adventure with your sightseeing, this is your ride. It’s loud, fast, and unforgettable.
- Enjoy Ice Cream at the Museum of Ice Cream
If you’re looking for a whimsical adventure in NYC, the Museum of Ice Cream in SoHo is a must-visit. This vibrant pink paradise offers a delightful blend of art, play, and, of course, unlimited ice cream.
From the moment I stepped inside, I was transported into a world of imagination. Each room is a sensory delight, featuring interactive installations like the Banana Jungle, the Celestial Subway, and the iconic Sprinkle Pool.
The best part? The unlimited ice cream treats! As I wandered through the museum, I indulged in a variety of flavors, each more delicious than the last. It’s a sweet tooth’s dream come true.
Whether you’re a kid or just a kid at heart, the Museum of Ice Cream offers a unique and joyful experience that’s perfect for creating unforgettable memories.
Have you visited any of these places? Please share with me your experiences as I would love to hear about your time in the city.
Thank you for reading
