Hi cheery friends,
Now that Christmas is in our rear view mirrors, and the new year is on the horizon, it’s time to think about those pesky new year resolutions. We all want a fresh start, a reset that allows us to breathe new life to our daily lives. It is motivating to know that a new year can give us fresh optimism – find love, lose weight, make more money etc. These are all great ideas to have but let’s be real, how many of those resolutions make it past January? I am not judging, as I have been there before. Over the years I have to realize that the mindset we have makes all the difference. To be honest, new year resolutions create a lot of pressure and disappointment when not realized. This new year, I am going to focus on shifting my mindset- those tiny but powerful changes that are permanent and have the biggest effects in life.
Why Mindset is Everything
See the thing with resolutions is that they hinge towards perfection. We all know the common ones; “I’ll work out every day.”, “No more takeout.”, “I’ll wake up at 5 AM and meditate for an hour.”! Like I said before, these resolutions create a lot of pressure and expectations that are a thrill to have in the mind but difficult to put in action. All it takes is one slip-up, one skipped workout or one pizza takeout, and suddenly, it feels like we’ve failed. Thing is, you have not failed, as long as you get back and continue what you started. It’s refusing to get back on and giving up that brings about failure! So I will share with you my mindset resolutions for 2025
My Mindset Resolutions for 2025
Guys, here is how I am approaching my goals for 2025.
- Progress Over Perfection
Choose progress over perfection. If you missed a workout, that’s okay! You can make it up by adding more time to your next workout routine. Eating out more than you had planned – that’s okay as you will make healthier choices next time. These small , gradual and consistent steps eventually lead to habits that change your daily life.
2. Practice Gratitude
Over the years, I have found that having a grateful attitude has changed how I see life. People like to throw the word “gratitude” around but what does it really mean! For me gratitude is being grateful for each step you take towards your goal. So for instance if you wanted $100, and someone gifts you $20 , you don’t complain about it being less than you expected. You express gratitude because you are headed towards your $100 goal. I like to jot down things I am grateful for at least once a week, and it helps me have a positive mindset. Life is tough and you need a positive outlook to tackle these challenges that are just part of living. Having a thankful tank that you can draw from when you feel down is necessary and the fuel you need to move forward.
3. Curiosity Over Fear
If you told me five years ago that I could start a YouTube channel, I would have said not possible. Don’t ever doubt your potential! Embrace curiosity and do away with negative words that hinder progress and kill morale. Words like, “I can’t do that,” are low energy and do not come from your creative side. Go with“What would happen if I tried?” This shift has already made me more open to new experiences—like going on a cruise, something I never thought I would bring myself to do.
4. Celebrate the Wins
If you don’t applaud your wins, then who will? You are your greatest and best supporter because only you know what the milestones you achieve mean. I clap for myself every time I set out to do something. If I post a video on social media, I celebrate this because there was a time I couldn’t even post a pic on social media. Acknowledge little victories whatever they are, and don’t look to others to validate your wins. Go for it and pat yourself on the back !
5. Comparison
Comparison is the thief of joy! Social media has increased the need for people to compare themselves to others. People travelling, others showing off their toned physiques, perfect posts and reels. It’s hard to not look at your own life and think, “Am I even doing enough“? I totally get it. The thing is comparison is a trap that diminishes your accomplishments and who you are as a person. If you feel less than, then how can you accomplish your own goals and meet your own needs. You MUST stay in your own lane and focus on your own race. If you keep checking to see what others are doing, then you might trip and fall, and then have to start all over again. This is why you must celebrate your small wins, express gratitude , work with progress , not perfection and challenge your self to do things you might otherwise not do. Focusing on me, my health and my happiness is key and in 2025, I am upping the ante!
These mindset shifts make me feel lighter, there is less pressure to “get it right” all the time since I am going at my own pace. I have noticed that I am also kinder to myself and willing to try new things because I am not afraid of failing. Try mixing in these with your New Year resolutions and see if they work for you.
Wishing you a successful and happy 2025
xoxo
